Patrick J. Jones is an award winning artist, author and teacher. He has worked as a concept artist and book illustrator for most major companies and his work has featured in major U.S. exhibitions, both in NYC and Pennsylvania. His oil paintings and drawings reside in private collections worldwide.
Patrick is the author of two best selling art technique books: ’Sci-fi & Fantasy Oil Painting Techniques' and ‘The Anatomy of Style detailing his figure drawing methods. His third book, ‘The Sci-Fi & Fantasy Art of Patrick J. Jones’, has just been released from Korero Press. His latest book on figure drawing, ‘Figures from Life’, will be released in early 2018.

Patrick will discuss traditional drawing rendering techniques which he uses to simplify anatomy into basic shapes and gestural line to create a language your memory will use to unlock and develop your personal style of drawing.
Course pre-requisite: Analytical Figure Drawing course OR foundational knowledge of human anatomy
Course materials:
Essential:
Plenty of newsprint / butcher’s paper.
Charcoal Sticks, big and small
Kneadable Eraser
Paper Stump
Sanding Pad
Compressed Charcoal pencils. General’s or Conté are recommended
Toned paper, tanned or flesh coloured, but lighter than your choice of sanguine pencil. I will discuss in the earlier weeks if you want to hold off and see what I will be using in the intro class before buying.
Sanguine Pastel Pencils and white pastel pencil
Tissue paper
Very Handy:
Electric or hard eraser
Drawing Pad A3
Sketch Board A3 ( clip board with handle and rubber band ). Clip your A3 pad to this for a neat carry.
Chamois ( leather shammy) Cloth ( must be real leather, not synthetic! ). Put in wash to get rid of oil before using.
These are the materials I will be using but feel free to add to the list or draw with similar materials of your own choice.
*Note: Digital mediums may be used, but are not recommended. Painter is preferred over Photoshop for those choosing to work digitally.
